Printable abacus worksheets
Nine levels, one technique each, in the order children learn them. Every sheet has the answers, a link to the matching guide, and a matching level in the game for instant feedback.
Level 1: Simple slidesEvery sum here is done by pushing 1-beads up with the thumb or down with the index finger. No 5-bead, no friends.Level 2: The 5-beadEvery sum uses the heaven bead on its own. These are all ten of them — the whole set.Level 3: Numbers 6 to 9Adding or taking away 6 to 9, where the heaven bead and earth beads move together as one pinch.Level 4: Little friendsEvery sum needs a little friend. There are exactly twenty on one rod, and they are all here.Level 5: Big friendsEvery sum carries or borrows, so every one needs a big friend. Remember: adding, fix this rod first; taking away, borrow first.Level 6: Two-digit numbersTwo-digit sums that can need any move. Work each number from left to right.Level 7: Column drillsCompetition-style columns. Keep the running total on the board and work down the column without writing anything.Level 8: MultiplicationTimes tables, then two-digit by one-digit. Multiplier on the left, two empty rods, then the number being multiplied.Level 9: DivisionOne-digit divisors, and every sum divides exactly. Divisor on the left, four empty rods, then the dividend.
